There’re a lot of design cliches in Esports, creating a new identity we were aiming to make something really special.
In 2020 esports became an officially recognized sport in Ukraine, so we’ve got a challenge to create an identity for esports.ua. We started from the beginning — the early 90s, the time when the local Ukrainian graffiti scene was born.
And also the time when a bunch of classic games was released: Doom, Civilization, Warcraft, X-Com, Diablo, etc. But why did we appeal to the graffiti culture? It’s because both scenes started low-key.
Same as the early pixel games, graffiti culture started with basic paints and tags, transforming into an independent subculture with its own masterpieces as the years went by.
Every graffiti tag that we use in esports.ua identity is a brand name or a short name of an esports discipline. You will find there the main tag “esports” together with CS:GO, Dota 2, PUBG, Fortnite, etc. New tags will be created when new games appear on the portal.

An important part of the identity is the font. “e-Ukraine” was a perfect choice for esports.ua website for it was specifically designed for digital use as well as its origin.
